Sydney Swans chief executive officer Tom Harley says the club will work through negotiations with Essendon regarding Joe Daniher in a private and respectful manner.
Daniher indicated to Essendon over the weekend that he would like to be traded to the Swans in the current trade period.
Harley said negotiations for any deal involving Daniher would begin over the next few days.
“He is a highly valued player so clearly the two clubs need to get together, that hasn’t happened as yet.”
“Charlie Gardiner (Head of Football) and Kinnear Beatson (GM of list strategy) will front our club when it comes to those discussion and I am sure there will be some in the next couple of days.”
“We are absolutely mindful of the fact that Joe is a contracted player to Essendon at the moment.”
Harley told Telstra Trade Radio the Club had started to consider what an appropriate deal would look like over the weekend.
“It has evolved pretty quickly over the weekend and we have had conversations internally around what it would look like from our point of view,” he said.
“That is only one side of the story though and I am sure the Bombers have another view on the world.
“Our overarching position is clear for the trade period and that is to do what is the best thing for the Club.”
