Sydney draftee Zac Foot is just three days into his journey in the red and white, but the speedster says he’s already locked his eyes on a couple of Swans he wants to model his game off.
One of them is his housemate, 2018 Sydney Rising Star Oliver Florent, and the other a player who this year notched his 100th AFL game, midfielder Harry Cunningham.
Foot, an 18-year-old winger hailing from the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup, signed with the Swans via pick 51 at the National Draft last Friday.
The youngster says he’s leaning on Florent and Cunningham in his early days as a Swan.
“Ollie and I play the same position where we’re trying to bring our run on the wing and link up with defence and the forward line,” Foot told SwansTV.
“Ollie’s a good player, he’s had a great couple of years at the Swans early on and he’s someone I look up to.
“And Harry as well – he has some key attributes that I want to look at, with his speed and ability to take the game on.”
Foot was surrounded by friends and family at home as the Swans announced his name at the National Draft at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.
Sydney selected Nick Blakey, James Rowbottom, Justin McInerney and Foot at the National Draft, with Durak Tucker, Harry Reynolds and Sam Wicks signing as rookies.
Foot said hearing his name at the Draft made for an unforgettable moment.
“It was a dream come true,” Foot said.
“The whole family was excited. I had family and friends over at my place and we enjoyed the moment and had a hit of golf after that.
“I just tried to relax myself and prepare myself for my early days at the Swans.”
Every one of the draftees joined the rest of the squad for the first all-in session of pre-season training at Bat and Ball Oval in Moore Park on Monday.
The draftees are slowly turning up the heat on the pre-season and Foot says he’s looking forward to giving it a red-hot go.
“I can’t wait to get stuck in to pre-season training,” Foot said.
“They ease us into it for a reason and when our first real session comes around I’ll be really excited for it.”
