For the third time in three weeks a Sydney Swans player has been nominated for the AFL Goal of the Year award.
Lance Franklin’s amazing goal with just five minutes remaining in the Sydney Derby against the Giants could not have come at a more important time.
He received an Isaac Heeney handball in the midfield before palming off Giants defender Nick Haynes and slamming home a goal on the run from 70 metres out.
The 874-goal champion bagged two majors against the Giants at the SCG on Saturday night and was nominated for his first effort.
Adelaide’s Eddie Betts and Richmond’s Jack Higgins also earned nominations.

Franklin was also nominted for the award in Round 2 and teammate Luke Parker won the vote in Round 1 for his overhead scissor kick goal.
