The Sydney Swans are eyeing off the chocolates ahead of a clash with the Port Adelaide Power at the SCG on Easter Sunday.

But as they prepare to secure back-to-back wins to kick-start their premiership campaign the might of the Power outfit is not lost on them. 

Vice-captain Luke Parker said a number of big-name signings have seen Port put the competition on watch. 

“They’ve recruited really well this year and have a lot of quality players,” Parker said on the Big Sports Breakfast.

“They’ve got a really good list and really good depth and we probably owe them one after the Round 1 loss last year.”

Former Geelong Cat Steve Motlop, Brisbane Lion Tom Rockliff and Melbourne Demon Jack Watts all signed with the club during the off-season and fired in Round 1.

Motlop (19 disposals, two goals) and Watts (20 disposals, three goals) were particularly impressive in Port’s 50-point win over Fremantle, while Rockliff had 12 touches and bagged a goal of his own in his return from a knee injury.

Parker says the coming of age of a number of younger personnel adds to the Power’s threat.

“The young guys they’ve got coming through have had a lot more experience,” Parker said.

“They’re up to their second or third years now which would really settle them.”

Defender Riley Bonner was the standout of the young guns in Port’s win on Saturday and claimed the Round 1 AFL Rising Star nomination.

The 21-year-old topped his side’s disposal-count with 31, including 20 in the opening half in his fifth senior appearance.

Meanwhile, midfielder Dan Hannebery and forward Sam Reid missed Sydney’s match with West Coast and Parker said they would be monitored in the lead-up to the Port clash.

“They will just get through training today and Friday and then we’ll then see what the coach does.”
