Families and sports fans are being urged to leave the car at home to get to Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday night with a huge weekend of sport happening in the area.

On Saturday night, in addition to the Arsenal exhibition match, Sydney Olympic Park will host Sydney Derby XIII between the Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants, as well as a performance of Disney on Ice presents Frozen. The Man Cave Expo will also take place from 9am-5pm at Sydney Showground this weekend.

Coordinator General Marg Prendergast said anyone heading to Olympic Park tonight and on the weekend should take advantage of the many additional public transport services being put on to get fans to these events.

“Public transport is the best and most efficient way to get to Sydney Olympic Park, especially on the weekend with around 110,000 people expected to flock to the area on Saturday night,” Ms Prendergast said.

“This afternoon, direct trains will run frequently to Olympic Park from Central and Lidcombe, as well extra trains running to the precinct from Blacktown, Schofields, Strathfield, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Gosford and Wyong – and major event buses will be operating as well.

“On Saturday, we’ll have plenty of extra trains running directly to Olympic Park from Central, Blacktown and Lidcombe, as well as plenty of special event buses set to start running from 3:30pm to 4:30pm depending on the route.

“Both tonight and on Saturday, Blue Mountains Line trains heading to Central will also make additional stops at Lidcombe from 5pm to 8pm.

“If you have to take the car, parking will fill up quickly so pre-book a spot and leave plenty of extra travel time as we can expect to see delays with heavy traffic on roads leading to Sydney Olympic Park.”

AFL fans have train travel covered by their tickets, while Arsenal exhibition match tickets cover travel on all public transport.

Today, Sydney FC play Arsenal at ANZ Stadium with kick-off at 8pm.

On Saturday, Disney on Ice presents Frozen shows will begin at Qudos Bank Arena from 10am, with the 6pm session coinciding with sporting events. Kick-off for the Arsenal FC exhibition match is at 8pm at ANZ Stadium and first bounce for the AFL match is at 7:25pm at Spotless Stadium.

There will be planned trackwork carried out on the T1 North Shore, T1 Northern (between Epping and Chatswood) and T3 Bankstown lines on Saturday.
