Sydney Swans players were on hand to pass on some tips to budding young stars in the Coffs Harbour region on Tuesday afternoon.
Luke Parker, Dan Hannebery, Jarrad McVeigh and Nick Smith attended the Paul Kelly Cup at C.ex International Stadium to share some advice and guidance for the primary school students competing.
The players are currently in Coffs Harbour for the Australia Post AFL Community Camp and this afternoon took the chance to watch some of the best young footballers in action.
The Paul Kelly Cup is the largest primary school competition in New South Wales and the ACT and is open to students in years five and six.
Defender Nick Smith said the Club always enjoyed getting amongst the locals in the region.
“It’s been another fantastic trip to Coffs Harbour. Coffs has become our home away from home in recent years,” Smith said.
“We always enjoy getting up to Coffs, getting out in the community and talking to the kids about footy and the season ahead.
“We’re looking forward to returning to Coffs in just over a week to take on North Melbourne and get the 2017 season underway.”
The Paul Kelly Cup has both a boys and girls section consisting of 12 player teams competing in round robin carnivals in local areas around the state.
Games are played on a smaller field using modified 12-a-side rules. This allows children who are new to the game to experience and enjoy AFL in a safe and fun environment.
Winning teams progress to the regional final with those successful at that stage moving into the state final to be played later this year.
