We take a closer look at some of the potential first round draftees ahead of the National Draft to be held in Sydney on November 24.
The Club will enter the National Draft with live selections at pick 14, 33 and 51.
The following are four of the potential draft prospects predicted by experts to be selected in the first round.
Paddy Dow – Bendigo Pioneers / Vic Country
Height: 184cm
Weight: 78kg
Position: Midfielder
A hard running medium midfielder, Dow has good balance between contested and uncontested ball. A graduate of the NAB AFL Academy he is a prolific ball-winner, he's good in one-on-one contests and was a consistent performer for Vic Country in the NAB AFL U18 Championships. Averaged 26 disposals for the Pioneers, but a shoulder operation late in the year ended his season prematurely. Dow remains in the mix for one of the top spots at the draft.
Jaidyn Stephenson – Eastern Ranges / Vic Metro
Height: 189cm
Weight: 76kg
Position: Half-forward
Stephenson is a medium midfielder or forward with line-breaking speed who is strong overhead and a long, accurate kick for goal. The AFL Academy graduate had 28 disposals and five-goals against South Australia in the NAB AFL U18 Championships. Also topped off outstanding year with a best-on-ground performance in the All Star game at the MCG on Grand Final day as well as showcasing his athletic potential at the Draft Combine. Successfully transitioned from a forward role into the midfield late in the TAC Cup season and enjoyed a strong patch of form for the Ranges.
Jarrod Brander – Bendigo Pioneers / Allies
Height: 194cm
Weight: 89kg
Position: Key defender/Key forward
Graduate of NAB AFL Academy, Brander is a tall forward/defender and finished the NAB AFL U18 Championships with a dominant performance up forward in the Allies’ win over Vic Metro. He is a strong mark overhead, possesses great agility and uses the ball well when he has it in his possession. His staring championships performance won him U18 All Australian honours.
Darcy Fogarty – Glenelg / South Australia
Height: 192cm
Weight: 92kg
Position: Half-forward/midfielder
Fogarty is a graduate of the AFL Academy who is a dynamic tall forward that can also go back or play through the midfield. He is a fierce competitor and has shown he can be strong overhead. Fogarty was hampered by a knee injury during the NAB AFL U18 Championships. He made an impressive debut at senior level with Glenelg in the SANFL this year to show he could match it with the more mature bodies.
