Swans veteran Jarrad McVeigh says he’s extremely pleased to be back playing footy again after six weeks off with injury.
The 32-year-old collected 24 disposals in his first match back from injury against Melbourne at the MCG on Friday night.
McVeigh told ABC Grandstand following the win he is feeling confident after getting a solid block of training under his belt.
“I feel great now. My weights program has been as strong as ever and to get through last night was another bonus so hopefully I can go on an upward trend from here," McVeigh said.
“I still think I bring good value to the team and still think I can perform and help the boys out."
McVeigh admits it was an extremely frustrating to have the injury setback.
“We were at the lowest of lows” he said.
“You’re trying to help out in ways you can with the teaching side or the leadership side and continually trying to find areas to help the boys improve. But you’re also trying to get yourself right as well and really pushing to get back”.
“You’ve got to stick together in those times and I think we did that really well” he said.
The former co-captain says there’s a long way to go this season and the team can’t afford too many slip ups, but believes they’ve started to find what they have been missing.
“We didn’t change too much we just got back to the basics of what we know works” he said.
“We believe in what we do and believe in our program.
“The most important thing is getting this team back to where we need to be and that’s playing finals footy”.
He said it was extremely pleasing to get the win last Friday.
“We know Melbourne are a hard team so we really wanted to bring it," he said.
“I thought we moved the ball a lot better. We got back to what we’ve been known for."
The focus has now moved to the round 16 clash with Gold Coast at home this Saturday. Gates open at 12.50pm for a 4.30pm kickoff.
