Aliir Aliir’s experiment as a swingman is set to continue when the Sydney Swans take on Gold Coast in Round 15 of the NEAFL.

Known for his intercept marking and game-breaking ability as a key defender, Aliir has been named at centre half-forward in the NEAFL Swans’ line-up ahead of Saturday’s curtain-raiser against the sixth-placed Suns.

A culmination of Aliir’s versatility, extra height and the fact coach Rhyce Shaw has a surplus of tall backs has bought about the move, not that Sydney’s No. 36 seems to be minding too much.

He racked up 25 disposals and kicked two goals as a lead up forward against Canberra last weekend, just one of the many positions Shaw says he’ll send the 22-year-old.

“He actually finished the game in the midfield last week,” Shaw said.

“Aliir is a unique player, it’s an advantage and a privilege to have him with us as he’s someone who can make things happen across a number of positions.

“We’ll certainly be chopping and changing him around again on Saturday and hopefully he continues his great run of form as a result.”

Aliir will be crucial to the NEAFL Swans continuing their incredible run of form. They haven’t lost since the opening round of the season and Shaw is keen to keep that record intact against the "dangerous" Suns.

"They've got a number of AFL-listed players who are playing some really good football," Shaw said, alluding to the Gold Coast's big wins in the past two weeks against Canberra and Aspley.

"Their high disposal numbers and uncontested possessions they seem to tally in the AFL resonate and filter down to the NEAFL. They're full of run and get a lot of drive from their half-back line.

"The onus will be on the whole side playing how we want to play. I'm confident the boys can get the job done."

Callum Sinclair will shoulder the ruckwork as the former Eagle sets his sights on a senior recall, as will a number of others in the group including defensive duo Jeremy Laidler and Harry Marsh.

James Rose found some great form in Canberra last weekend kicking three goals and collecting 30 disposals while keeping the NEAFL Swans' pressure gauge turned up, something he'll have to manage without help from Robbie Fox who injured his foot in the Nation's Capital.

Alex Johnson meanwhile will increase his game time in what is his second game back from his well-documented stint on the sidelines.
