McVeigh content with state of contract talks

Former Sydney captain Jarrad McVeigh says he is happy with the state of his contract discussions, raising hopes he will play again for the Swans next year.
The sight of McVeigh, who lifted the premiership cup in 2012, playing for another club would be jarring for Swans fans but Fairfax Media understands that scenario is unlikely if the 32-year-old can maintain his strong form to the end of the season.
The veteran, who plays his 298th game this week, has not been offered a new deal but is in constant dialogue with coach John Longmire and Swans football manager Tom Harley over his playing future.
If McVeigh played on it would likely be at a significantly reduced salary, but money is not believed to be a sticking point.
No guarantees on offer but McVeigh eager to extend Swans stay

NO offer, no worries.
That’s the attitude of former Sydney Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh who wants to play on next year but still doesn’t have a deal on the table from the club.
“I want to still play on,” McVeigh said. “I have always said all year that I want to play on if my body is right and I am playing at a high level so definitely I want to play on next year. I have been in constant communication with club all year and I am pretty comfortable with where it all sits.”
McVeigh, 32, has been among the Swans’ best since returning from a nagging calf injury in round 15. They are 9-1 with him in the team and it’s a form line which has him believing he has more to give. While he and Kieren Jack were replaced as captain by midfield gun Josh Kennedy at the end of last season his leadership qualities are still evident on and off the field.
He also has ambitions to coach.
“I love that side of the game to be helping and teaching younger players, it’s obviously very different to being out there but I feel my strengths are eyeing the game and reading the game well, hopefully that could translate to a good coaching career,” he said.
Swans still haven’t thrown a deal McVeigh’s way

Former Swans captain Jarrad McVeigh’s future at the club remains in doubt. The defender has revealed he wants to play on next season but has not signed a new deal.
The premiership player has been in talks with Sydney and disclosed yesterday they had not reached an agreement.
The 32-year-old has played 297 games and is close to joining Adam Goodes (372), Jude Bolton (325) and Michael O’Loughlin (303) in the Swans’ exclusive 300 club.
Like the other three, he would love to finish his career as a one-club player.
“I want to still play on; I have always said all year that I want to play on if my body is right and I’m playing at a high level, so definitely I want to play on next year,” McVeigh said.
“I have been in constant communication with the club all year and I’m pretty comfortable with where it all sits. I talk to John (Longmire) and Tom Harley most weeks and I sit pretty comfortable with where things are at the moment and we’ll make a decision towards the end of the year.
“I am continually speaking to those blokes. We’ve got a lot of trust and honesty with each other and we know where it is all at.”
Stanford quarterback Keller Chryst bound for NFL stardom

KELLER Chryst plays football for free. He’s the only player in this photo to do so.
But should you check in again with this rising Stanford quarterback a year from now, well, he will likely be worth more than all of them combined.
Raised in a quintessential American footballing family, Chryst is the hottest NFL prospect among the 200 footballers taking to Allianz Stadium for Sunday’s NCAA season opener.
Initially, the star QB was not expected to travel Down Under after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during last year’s Sun Bowl victory over North Carolina.
However, while ACL injuries can take nine months to a year before they have healed, the Cardinals’ No.10 was back in six months.
