Sydney Swans key defender Brenna Tarrant has been named in the 2024 All Australian Team at the AFLW Awards in Melbourne tonight.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed one of her strongest seasons to date appearing in 10 matches. In her sixth AFLW season, Tarrant led the backline with her experience and averaged 13.5 disposals, 3.8 tackles and 2.3 intercept marks.

A highlight of her season was Round 2 against St Kilda where she smashed the record for the most intercepts (15) by a Sydney player in an AFLW game.

Sydney Swans AFLW Senior Coach Scott Gowans said he was thrilled for Tarrant after her first All-Australian selection, saying it was well-deserved after a consistent season.

"Brenna has had an outstanding year and is a rock in our defence," Gowans said.

"She is rarely beaten in the air and has taken her game to a new level this year, advancing her on field leadership and offensive ball movement."

Her maiden All Australian blazer marks just the second year the Swans have featured in the team. She succeeds Chloe Molloy, Ally Morphett and Laura Gardiner who were named in 2023 with Sofia Hurley named in the 2024 squad and unlucky to miss out on the final team selection.

Tarrant is one of 21 players, including a vice and vice-captain to feature in the All Australian team. The All Australian panel were asked to select players in recognition of the leading athletes across all positions on the field.

AFLW All Australian panel: Andrew Dillon (Chair), Gemma Bastiani (AFL Media and ABC), Jason Bennett (Channel Seven), Sarah Black (AFL Media), Laura Kane (AFL Executive General Manager Football), Katie Loynes (Former player GWS and Carlton), Josh Mahoney (AFL General Manager Football Operations), Emma Moore (AFL General Manager AFLW), Erin Phillips (Former Adel/PA player and AFL Performance Lead), Eliza Reilly (CODE media), Narelle Smith (Former Adel.
