The Swans look set to recall young gun Callum Mills for Sunday’s clash with GWS at Spotless Stadium.
Mills was rested last week to manage his game time, missing Sydney’s win in torrential rain on the Gold Coast.
Young forward George Hewett suffered concussion in that match and will be tested at training this week.
General Manager of Football Tom Harley says Hewett sat out the bulk of the match as a precaution.
“George Hewett’s had some concussion history over the past couple of years and he copped what looked like an innocuous knock, but it clearly wasn’t that – he wasn’t right to go back onto the field,” Harley told the HCF Injury Update.
“We take it very seriously, so we’ll assess him at training today and see how much training he does. He’ll have to get through the required protocols to be available for selection.”
Ted Richards and Tom Paley have been ruled out for Sydney Derby X. Richards is on track to be available for Round 13 after suffering concussion against Hawthorn, while Papley has a hot spot on his shin and the Club is taking a conservative approach to his return.
Meanwhile Sam Reid has recovered well after missing the last half of last week’s game in the NEAFL with a sore Achilles. Reid is expected to be available for selection but it’s unclear if he will earn a senior recall or get more game time in the NEAFL.
And there are good signs for Alex Johnson after another knee reconstruction. Johnson is recovering from surgery in Melbourne and Harley says he’s “going well, he’s positive and the surgeon is extremely positive”.
