Jeremy Laidler will undergo a fitness test on Thursday to determine whether the defender lines up against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.
Laidler’s knee pulled up sore after training in the lead up to the Sydney Swans’ Round 13 clash with Melbourne and therefore he was subsequently rested.
While not severe, the 26-year-old will be given every opportunity to prove his fitness before the team’s selected for the twilight clash at the SCG.
“It was a management thing more anything else,” General Manager of Football Tom Harley told this week’s HCF Injury Update.
“There was a little bit of swelling in Jeremy’s knee so he’s a test this week. He’s still got a couple of sessions to get through.
“We’re hopeful he’ll be right to take on the Dogs.”
Laidler could be chosen alongside Ted Richards after playing in the NEAFL Swans' last game before the bye.
No such luck for Harry Marsh who will be out for at least another week as the defender recovers from a hamstring injury sustained in the loss to GWS.
Again, while only minor, Harley says a conservative approach will be taken with the 2016 debutant.
“He actually played out that game with the hamstring strain,” Harley added.
“It’s not a major one but he won’t play this week. We’re certainly not expecting any major delays with Harry so we’re looking forward to getting him back to full fitness.”
Meanwhile, Kurt Tippett and Alex Johnson are recovering well from recent surgeries.
Tippett, who tore his hamstring tendon against GWS, resumed training on Tuesday by taking part in light skill work with his leg heavily bandaged.
The ruckman remains on track for a Round 22 return.
And, after a three-week recovery period, Johnson is back around the playing group following his fifth knee reconstruction.
Signs are good as the 24-year-old “pins his ears back” for another round of rehab on the road to that long-awaited comeback.
