The Swans’ key position stocks will receive a boost this weekend with Mike Pyke and Lewis Johnston set to return through the reserves after overcoming their recent injuries.
Club physiotherapist Matt Cameron told SwansTV that Pyke will return to the field for the first time since the reserves win over Queanbeyan at the SCG on June 25.
Pyke initially injured his quad in the Swans round seven win over the Western Bulldogs at Manuka Oval.
“(His rehabilitation) has gone smoothly. He started training last week and he’s pushing hard to play,” Cameron said.
Johnston will make his return after hurting his ankle in the second quarter of the reserves loss to the Gold Coast Suns on July 9.
“They’re both coming off four week rehab programs and will resume in the seconds this weekend,” Cameron said.
Dan Hannebery has pulled up well after jarring his neck after he went back into a marking contest with Essendon forward Michael Hurley on Saturday night. Cameron likened the collision to a ‘car prang’, but said Hannebery will be fine to play against Richmond at the MCG on Sunday.
Jed Lamb, Gary Rohan, Brett Meredith, Campbell Heath and Matt Spangher all made it through their returns in the reserves’ 100-point win over Belconnen at Manuka Oval last Saturday.
Cameron said they will all play again this weekend having pulled up well after playing between half and three-quarters of the game.
Andrejs Everitt is listed as one-to-two weeks away from recovering from a deep calf muscle injury, while Daniel Currie is still further away with a foot overload problem.
