Star midfielder Luke Parker is confident his team understands the importance of having a strong finish to the home and away season.

The Sydney Swans sit second on the ladder, just one game behind Hawthorn after another convincing win on the weekend.

The congestion in the top-eight means every win is vital to a team's fortunes, with up to seven teams jostling or trying to better their position within the top four.

Parker said it was the convincing nature of Saturday’s 67-point win over Port Adelaide that was most pleasing with that all-important double chance on the line.

“It’s so crucial to win at this time of year with the ladder so tight,” Parker told the Sunday Footy Show.

“We knew they had a slim hope that their finals chances were still alive so we wanted to shut that down early.

“We came out firing, the forwards were pretty dangerous and the defenders did their job so it was an all-round effort from everyone that got us the win.”

The Swans face two road trips in their final three matches of the season. They travel to Melbourne to take on St Kilda on Saturday night before having to back up for a trip to Tasmania to tackle North Melbourne in Hobart.

Parker said easing off, given finals is just around the corner, is simply not an option.

“Bottom eight sides are beating top four teams so if you are not on your game for 100 per cent of the time than you can be beaten,” Parker said.

“It is crucial you keep that same mindset each week to play basic football because we know what stands up in big games.”

“Hopefully we can keep that going.”

Parker continued his individual brilliance against Port Adelaide, gathering 39 disposals (22 contested) and 11 clearances.
