Preliminary Final v Collingwood
The Sydney Swans finally ended their Collingwood hoodoo in the second biggest game of all, the 2012 Preliminary Final at ANZ Stadium.
The 26-point win, which was the first win after 11 straight losses against Collingwood, also marked Swans veteran Jude Bolton’s 300th game.
The match produced outstanding highlights, with no moment more exciting than when Swans speedster Lewis Jetta left Collingwood defender Nathan Brown in his wake to run three quarters of the field and kick an unforgettable goal.
After a terrific first half, the Swans pushed their lead out to as much as 42 points late in the third term and appeared destined for their first Grand Final appearance in six years.
The Magpies managed to claw their way back to within 20 points, but the Swans were able to steady in the final quarter to book their place in the 2012 AFL Grand Final.
The Swans midfield of Josh Kennedy (30 possessions), Ryan O’Keefe (34 touches, 11 tackles) and Jarrad McVeigh (30 touches) were again outstanding and curbed the influence of Collingwood’s All-Australian midfielders Dayne Beams, Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury.
