Sydney Swans ruckman Kurt Tippett has avoided surgery after suffering a hairline fracture to his jaw in the qualifying final against GWS.
Tippett consulted a specialist on Monday and General Manager of Football Tom Harley says the prognosis is better than anticipated.
“He won’t play this week and we’ll assess what his return-to-play timeline is after that, but some positive news there with Kurt for sure,” Harley said.
Young gun Callum Mills will also be sidelined for Saturday’s semi final against the Crows.
Harley says it’s disappointing news for Mills, but he could return if the Swans can keep their finals campaign alive.
“It’s a grade one strain, which is the lowest strain you can have in a hamstring, so he’s a one-to-two week (injury) and also a bit like Kurt in that the prognosis is more positive post-scans than it perhaps was during the game,” Harley said.
Meanwhile Zak Jones has been ruled out of contention to replace Mills this week after suffering a concussion in the NEAFL Grand Final.
