The Sydney Swans have opted for experience for Thursday's blockbuster with Hawthorn with the addition of small forward Ben McGlynn.

Unlucky to miss out on the trip to Geelong last weekend, McGlynn responded in the best way possible to earn an immediate recall for the top-of-the-table clash at the SCG.

The 30-year-old starred for the NEAFL Swans on Saturday, collecting 25 disposals and kicking two goals against Canberra at Manuka Oval.

But it was his game-high nine tackles which ultimately pleased the coaches who'll be looking for more of the same from the pressure forward on Thursday night.

McGlynn replaces James Rose as the only change for the clubs' second encounter of season 2016.

Speaking to SwansTV for Centrum Team Selection, coach John Longmire said the former Hawk brings energy and hardness to the side.

"He went back with a really strong attitude," he said of the 164-gamer in McGlynn who kicked two goals in Sydney's win over Hawthorn in Round 9.

"Benny didn't play a full game, obviously with the shorter break going into a Thursday night game. He played limited game time but the game time that he did play we were really happy with what he did.

"He's an experienced player, he's quick, he's hard and we'll need plenty of that on Thursday."

Sydney has won three of the past nine games against the reigning premier and will be out to snap the Hawks' run of six consecutive wins.

Not since 2007 has Sydney beaten Hawthorn twice in the one year.

Jordan Foote, Xavier Richards and Toby Nankervis have been named as emergencies.
