Sydney Swans midfielder Luke Parker never envisaged taking his talents anywhere else in the lead up to his re-signing.

Parker put pen to paper on a new five-year deal last month, extending his stay at the SCG until 2021.

There was plenty of talk surrounding whether the 23-year-old, who was recruited from TAC Cup side the Dandenong Stingrays, would return to Melbourne when his contract was up at the end of this season.

But, speaking on 3AW Radio on Thursday, the gutsy midfielder reaffirmed his desire to be a one club player by saying he never contemplated leaving the club where he is already a Bob Skilton Medal winner and valued member of the leadership group.

“There has been phone calls and stuff here and there to my manager,” Parker said.

“But for me I always envisioned staying in Sydney and wanted to be a part of the future of this footy club.

“I really wasn’t looking at coming back to Melbourne at all, I was pretty keen to get the deal done before the season started to take the pressure off and so that I could get back to playing football.”

Parker is well and truly on the way to doing that following a delayed but strong pre-season campaign.

He took some time to recover from his broken leg suffered in the Swans’ Round 20 clash against Collingwood last season but is now “100 per cent” and on track for round one.

“Basically I didn’t have too many setbacks during the pre-season,” Parker added.

“There were two weeks where I was on a bit of monitored training. But I have played two full games in the past two weeks and now looking forward to getting into the season so I’ll be raring to go.”

Jarrad McVeigh is unfortunately not on track for the season opener against the Magpies which is a blow to the side but Parker believes it won’t be too long before his co-captain finds his groove for a round two or three comeback game.

Parker spoke ahead of Friday’s final NAB Challenge clash with Carlton, and the Sydney Swans’ Melbourne Fan Day which will be held at Albert Park’s Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

“It’ll be great to go down and meet some of the old South Melbourne fans and our Melbourne-based fans who are all so passionate about our club,” Parker added.

The Sydney Swans Fan Day will be on from 8.30am to 10.30am in MSAC’s Basketball Hall.
