Jed Lamb had an injury-plagued first season at the Swans after being picked up this time last year in the AFL Draft, but he is now eagerly looking forward to getting his body right over pre-season and pushing for senior selection next year.

The 19-year old small forward from Yarram kicked a combined total of 44 goals for the Gippsland Power and Victoria Country during the 2010 season and is confident that if he can get out on the park more next season he can emulate that form.

“It’s just a matter of getting my body right this pre-season and making sure I’m injury free for the upcoming season,” Lamb explained to SwansTV.

“I have been doing a lot of work with the Physio around the club so hopefully I stay injury free and have a big season.

“I just want to make sure I get my body right and that I’m doing all the right things, whether that is physio, ice baths, around the track, or in training. Hopefully this helps me in pushing for senior selection next year.”

Ahead of the Swans picking up three new players at tonight's AFL Draft, Lamb reflected on his own experience during draft week and how he first found out that he was going to call Sydney his new home.

“I was actually down at the local pub with all my family and friends and once my name was read out I got a phone call from Luke Parker. I played Vic Country with him so we were pretty close and he told me to ‘pack my bags’,” Lamb recalls.

Lamb said that moving up at the same time as Parker helped both of them settle quickly and build a bond at the club.

“It’s a pretty daunting experience on your first day, but you have to make the most of your opportunity,” he said.

“It does make it a bit easier (having someone else in the same position) and the club was great with helping me move up.

“I also knew Campbell Heath as well because he is around my area (in Victoria) so that made things a bit easier as well.”

Despite being the Swans highest pick in 2010 at number 21, Lamb is the only player yet to debut out of the impressive group of draftees, however things are looking positive this pre-season for the talented youngster.
