Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe has backed the team to strike back in a clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium next Friday night.
It comes after Sydney fell to the Gold Coast Suns in a 24-point loss at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.
“The stage is set for a big game next week already,” Rampe told SwansTV.
“We’ll lick our wounds and get back out there. We’re not going to go into our shells. We’re going to really look forward to the challenge and hopefully see a big response against Essendon next week.”
Defender Aliir Aliir and forward Tom Papley were two of the Swans’ best in the loss to the Suns.
Aliir collected 24 disposals and seven marks and provided strong rebound off half-back, while Papley booted three goals and applied strong pressure on the ball-carrier.
Rampe said the performances of the two youngsters were a highlight of the day.
“Aliir’s come in and played some really good footy,” Rampe said.
“He’s probably almost back to his best. A few positives to come out of the game were him and Papley kicking a few goals and looking lively up forward.
“It’s good for their momentum over the back end of the year.”
