The Sydney Swans recently played host to children from the Hooker Family Foundation’s Kids to Coast program.
The Hooker Family Foundation’s mission is to empower disadvantaged children with education.
Their Kids to Coast program is an educational exchange program for young Australians. It aims to improve school attendance and student participation, leading to a change of attitude towards education and development of a stronger generation of community champions.
As part of the 2016 program, 10 top students from East Arnhem Land made the journey to Sydney for the first time. To be selected to take part, the students had to demonstrate a commitment to their academic performance, with top grades, top behaviour and top school attendance.
During their visit to Sydney the students were given a tour of the SCG and attended a Swans training session. They met coach John Longmire and the players, and were thrilled to receive a special welcome from Lance Franklin.
