The Sydney Swans have a new die-hard fan after young Daniel Taylor was selected as the team's junior mascot during the qualifying final against GWS.
In conjunction with charity partner Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Daniel was treated to a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take the field in front of more than 60,000 people at ANZ Stadium and run out with his new favourite team.
Daniel, 7, was born with Cerebral Palsy and a visual impairment called Ocular Motor Apraxia.
The conditions present many day-to-day challenges, but with the support of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and regular physiotherapy, speech therapy, vision therapy and occupational therapy allows Daniel to live an active and social life with his family and friends.
Daniel was quite shy at first out on the ground but, after spotting his mum and dad in the crowd, soon warmed to the experience.
He enjoyed waving to fans and then cheered the team on as they walked up the race.
"Daniel had the best experience," Daniel's mum, Tanya Taylor, said. "He was in his element being out in front of the crowd and cheering the boys on and running through that banner."
Ben McGlynn, a passionate supporter of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, took Daniel’s hand as they ran through the banner with the rest of the players.
Dressed head to toe in full Sydney Swans gear, Daniel couldn't hide his bright and beautiful smile.
“He absolutely loved wearing the red and white so much so that he slept in his uniform, including the socks!" Tanya added.
Along with this year's finals series, the Sydney Swans will be throwing everything behind the Cerebral Palsy Alliance's Steptember campaign whereby several players and staff have taken up the challenge to walk 10,000 steps a day for the month of September.
Their efforts aim to raise valuable funds and awareness for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
Daniel is now well and truly #ProudlySydney and can’t wait to cheer on the Swans for the rest of the finals campaign.
"Cheer, cheer the red and the white!," he said.
