Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh says the Sydney Swans will play anywhere and anytime, dismissing reservations about playing at ANZ Stadium for next week’s Qualifying Final.
As announced by the AFL last week, Sydney’s home finals would be moved from Homebush to the SCG unless in the event of a Sydney Derby.
As it turned out, GWS’ fourth-placed finish to the regular season means ANZ Stadium will take centre stage in September once again the Swans and Giants do battle in the very first all-Sydney final.
ANZ Stadium will be somewhat unfamiliar to many players from both camps, as neither side played at the venue throughout 2016.
GWS hasn’t played there since 2013 while the Swans’ previous appearance at the venue came in last year’s semi-final loss to North Melbourne.
But, boasting a 8-2 finals record at Olympic Park, McVeigh is confident his playing group can readjust for the September 10 blockbuster.
“I’ve played in a number of huge finals game at ANZ Stadium, so we can’t wait to get out there,” McVeigh said on Tuesday.
“We back our system in wherever we go, wherever we go.
“We’re very familiar with the ground, we’ve played out there for years.
“It doesn’t hold any fears for us.”
Only five players from last week's win over Richmond haven't played at ANZ Stadium, which served as the Sydney Swans' second home for the past 14 years before the permanent move back to the SCG earlier this season.
Sydney will hold one of its main training sessions at the venue to familiarise themselves with the bigger ground ahead of the all-important clash.
The winner will progress straight through to the Preliminary Final while the loser will face either Adelaide or North Melbourne in the first semi-final.
