Star forward Lance Franklin has predicted a bright future for his side with the hard work to start from day one of pre-season training.

It was a disappointing end to the Swans season when they went down by 17 points to the Western Bulldogs on Grand Final day just over a week ago.

Speaking at the 2016 Club Champion Dinner the star forward said he was excited by what his side could achieve next season.

“It really has been an unbelievable season, obviously we weren’t able to get that premiership but I know we have a really special group here.”

“We have a lot of young kids coming through and the senior guys at this football club are really good players.

“I know that we are going to be back better than ever next year.

“We need to get back on day one of pre-season to train as hard as we can and hopefully we can go one better next year.”

Franklin was voted the Paul Kelly Players’ Player for his outstanding contribution to the Swans success in 2016.

The leadership and guidance from the Coleman Medallist towards his younger teammates was a shining light as he returned to the football field.

Franklin said he was humbled to be announced the winner of the award.

“It has been an unbelievable year,” he said.

“I went through a difficult period last year but I have had amazing support through the football club, my partner and my family who has been unbelievable through a tough period.

“To get this award is unbelievable and I am immensely proud to get this award.

Franklin booted 81 goals in 2016 for his best return since moving to the Swans and his best season since booting 84 goals back in 2011.
