Lance Franklin has reaffirmed his status as one the best players of the modern era after earning his sixth All Australian honour on Thursday night.

Franklin was one of an unprecedented five Sydney Swans to be named in the coveted team announced at an official ceremony in Melbourne with Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker, Dan Hannebery and Dane Rampe also selected.

The star forward, who finished runner-up in this year’s Coleman Medal with 74 goals from his 22 matches, joins an esteemed list of six-time All Australians including Matthew Pavlich, Chris Judd, Matthew Scarlett and Tony Lockett.

He stands side-by-side with Geelong’s Corey Enright as the only current-day players who have six All Australian next to their name, with only Gold Coast’s Gary Ablett (eight) ahead of them.

Kennedy and Hannebery are now three-time All Australians, coming off outstanding season which will again have them in Brownlow Medal and Bob Skilton Medal contention.

Parker can now add All Australian to his already impressive resume, which also includes a premiership medallion and Club Champion award won in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

While this year’s accolade is also Dane Rampe’s first.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in which the former rookie not only become an integral part of the league’s best defence but flourished as a first-year member of the leadership group.

Never have the Sydney Swans had five players named in the one All Australian side.

The previous best was four and they were named in the 2014, 2006 and 1997 seasons.
