Working on radio across the Hit Network radio announcer Byron Cooke takes every opportunity he can to include his passion for the red and white in his everyday life.

We caught up with the passionate Sydney Swans ambassador in the lead up to the 2017 season.

When did you start following the Swans?
My earliest memory was going to a game at the SCG in 1987 vs West Coast. We won by 130 points with a full forward who looked like a member of Bon Jovi. I was sold.

What is it that you love about being a Sydney Swans ambassador?
The publicity opportunities that come with being an ambassador are alot of fun. Last season as part of Grand Final week I donned the Cyggy costume and got in a wrestling smackdown with my Fox FM co-host Fifi Box (dressed as Woofer the Bulldog). Jude Bolton was in my corner and Bob Murphy was in hers. Showing pride in our club, our colours and our community across Melbourne on breakfast radio was really special....although I lost the wrestle and embarrassed Jude.

Who is your favourite Swans player and why?
Of all time I'm going to say Barry Hall. Probably because that era is right in my hitting zone. My passion was still building in the Lockett years. Our Sydney tradition of having that superstar / rockstar full forward is something I've always connected with. There's a bit of showbiz about it and for me thats a part of the whole Sydney vibe. Buddy has brought it back big time and it's so exciting to watch.

What is your favourite Swans memory and why?
Hosting the 2012 AFL Premiership Party and standing on that stage as our boys held the trophy aloft. It was the first ever party where the public could come in to the G after the game for free. The energy was unbelievable. It was an epic experience.

What are you most looking forward to in the 2017 season?
Is it just me or is this GWS rivalry getting really heavy? Sydney vs GWS is the new blockbuster. They are so up and about for games against us. It's become an unmissable game on the fixture. Bring em on this year!
