Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh is set to play his first game of the season after being named to face Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

McVeigh has overcome a minor calf strain to take his place in the Swans’ line-up for the Round 2 blockbuster against the Power.

Harry Cunningham has been omitted from the side that defeated Essendon by 12 points in the season opener last weekend.

Coach John Longmire said McVeigh was a welcomed addition to the team.

“He is the co-captain, he understands the game, he sees it very well and it has been good to get another good week of training under his belt," Longmire said.

“He is a very good player so it is great to have him back in the team."

Longmire said it was a tough decision as to who would be left out of the side.

"He is very unlucky to miss out because he went well over there last year so it was a tough decision."

"We know he is a good player and we know he will bounce back."

Ben McGlynn will return from injury in the Reserve's first match of the season against Ainslie on Saturday afternoon.
