Tom Mitchell has been ruled out of Saturday’s derby with GWS with an eye injury suffered in a training mishap.

Mitchell, who is coming off a career-high 41 disposals, was accidentally poked in the eye during a tackling drill in the Swans’ final training session ahead of the Round 21 clash with the Giants.

The young midfielder took no further part in training after the injury occurred and is set to miss this weekend, possibly a second, with the Club deciding to take a cautious approach.

“He’s got some bleeding behind the eye,” Swans coach John Longmire confirmed for Centrum Team Selection.

“At this stage it’s definitely one week but could be two weeks, we’ll have to wait and see.

“Obviously we have to be very careful with that type of injury.”

Mitchell has averaged 26 possessions in 2015 and will miss his first game since Round 4.

Mitchell’s forced omission is one of three changes for Saturday’s clash with GWS, sidelined alongside injured pair Luke Parker (ankle) and Gary Rohan (knee).
