Josh Kennedy joined esteemed company on Friday night by winning his second Bob Skilton Medal at the Sydney Swans’ 2015 Club Champion Dinner.
Announced in front of special guests inside The Star Events Centre, Kennedy polled in each of the Swans’ 24 matches to amass 831 votes and claim the Swans’ highest individual honour ahead of Dan Hannebery (742) and Kieren Jack (586).
Presented with the coveted medal on stage by Bob Skilton himself, the 27-year-old joined an illustrious list of players including Skilton, Peter Bedford, Paul Kelly, Adam Goodes and Jarrad McVeigh to have won the award more than once.
A paragon of consistency, Kennedy averaged more than 30 possessions a game by the end of the 2015 season on top of leading the competition for clearances and contested disposals.
Kennedy also led his teammates in average disposals (30.5) and average tackles (6).
Kennedy was awarded a remarkable 40+ votes in 11 matches overall including two perfect 50’s – in Round 21 against Greater Western Sydney and the Qualifying Final against Fremantle.
It was Kennedy’s efforts during the second half of the season which underpinned the victory.
To that point in the count Hannebery topped the leaderboard with 428 votes, 51 ahead of reigning champion Luke Parker (377) while Kennedy sat third (373).
That deficit soon diminished as the Swans’ No. 12 reaped full reward for his record-breaking run of 11 consecutive 30+ disposal performances, from Round 14 right through to the Qualifying Final, to claim yet another top-three finish.
Kennedy has claimed a podium finish every year since crossing over from Hawthorn at the end of 2009.
The top prize capped off a busy night with Kennedy also taking out the Paul Kelly Players’ Player Award and the Paul Roos Best Player in Finals Award.
