The Sydney Swans are pleased to welcome new recruits Callum Mills, Tyrone Leonardis and Jordan Dawson.
The trio were selected at Tuesday night’s AFL National Draft at the Adelaide Convention Centre, with Mills becoming the Swans’ first top-five pick for 13 years.
Mills was selected with pick three after Melbourne submitted a bid for the QBE Academy product, of which Sydney quickly matched.
The Swans’ next two picks came in at Pick 51 and Pick 56 which saw Leonardis (Northern Knights, Vic) and Dawson (Sturt, SA) officially sworn in.
Recruiting and List Strategy Manager Kinnear Beatson said Leonardis and Dawson both possess an elite kick which satisfied the Swans’ needs.
“One of the focuses was to improve our list in terms of our kicking ability,” Beatson said.
“Over the last couple of seasons we’ve lost Nick Malceski, Rhyce Shaw, Lewis Jetta and Adam Goodes so we’re looking to improve our ball use by foot.
“That’s where these boys come in.”
Ruckman Sam Naismith was also officially upgraded to the senior list at tonight’s AFL Draft.
The club will now turn his attention to the Rookie Draft on Friday, November 27.
