Sydney Swans forward Ben McGlynn will be fit for selection for Saturday night’s clash with Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.

McGlynn, who has also served his three-week suspension for striking GWS player Tom Scully in round 16, has overcome a hamstring injury suffered in the same match.

Club physiotherapist Matt Cameron said McGlynn has been training in full for a week-and-a-half and will be in contention for Saturday night’s match.

“He started training late last week, and he had a bit of a bleed or a bruise in his hammy (before that), which we were a bit worried about,” he said.

“We wanted to look after that and not risk him tearing that, particularly while he couldn’t play (due to suspension).

“He sat out for a week from training but went back in last week and he’s fully fit and firing.

“There hasn’t been a lot of good news in the last few weeks and there haven’t really been many returning, so it’s certainly a good to have one back.”

Earlier today, Swans coach John Longmire said that injured senior players Adam Goodes (knee), Sam Reid (quad) and Lewis Jetta (shin) faced up to four more weeks on the sidelines with their respective injuries.

The coach said the rehab group would all begin outdoor running programs from this week onwards, but were not due to resume team training for at least another fortnight.

“Sam is running and striding at a pretty good rate,” Longmire said.

“I think he’s missed about four weeks now, so he’s doing that OK and is pulling up pretty well, but he is still a couple of weeks away from getting into ball work with the team.

“Lewis Jetta will be running outside this week and so will Adam Goodes.

“They’re still a few weeks away and you’d have to  say at this point that they are still 3-4 weeks away from pushing themselves up for senior selection all three, and Lewis Roberts-Thomson maybe a fraction behind that.”

While team training is still a number of weeks away for the rehab group, Cameron said outdoor running was a major step forward for the injured players.

“It’s a big step for them because they are really sick of training inside,” he said.

“It is just a little bit harder on their joints and their muscles, so it’s not a huge rehab step, but it’s a huge milestone for them individually.”

In other injury news, Swans forward Mitch Morton will miss at least one week with a knee injury suffered in last Saturday’s reserves clash with the Brisbane Lions reserves.

“Mitch pulled up a bit sore in his knee after the weekend’s game up in Brisbane in the twos,” Cameron said.

“He’s had a scan which showed a bit of wear and tear in his knee, so he’ll be out for at least this week just to let things calm down.”
