Sydney Swans stars Lance Franklin and Kieren Jack are expected to line up in the club’s round one clash against Essendon at ANZ Stadium on April 4.
Franklin (concussion) and Jack (abdomen) have been cleared of serious injury after undergoing precautionary scans following Sunday’s NAB Challenge win over GWS in Canberra.
General Manager of Football Tom Harley said the pair was expected to take to the field for the club’s season opener.
"Buddy's good, it was obviously a pretty hectic day for the club yesterday, and a really heavy head clash," Harley said.
"He flew back with the team, he's had a good night's sleep, and it is a pretty heavy concussion but he'll be fine. He has no facial injuries whatsoever."
“He’ll (Jack) be fine, he'll be sore, but again he's had a flawless pre-season Kieren so we don't expect anything major to put him off course and expect him to get up for round one as well.”
Harley said the day was a good test for the club’s football operations department.
"It's a good test of all of our systems. You don't expect to have two hospital visits and a concussion sub with Gary Rohan as well,” he said.
“We got through all of that from an operational sense, and Lance and Kieren in particular will rest up and will be fine to go."
Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh is also expected to be fit for round one despite not taking to the field throughout the NAB Challenge series due to a calf complaint.
"McVeigh hasn't played through the NAB Challenge as he has a calf but he looks like he will be fine," Harley said.
"Jarrad is an absolute professional in the way he attacks his football and his rehab. It was a minor calf strain but when you are 30 years old you take a very cautious approach with these sorts of things."
"He will ramp up his training this week, we will evaluate how he is going but at this stage we don't expect any issues around his availability."
