Sydney Swans Chairman Andrew Pridham has congratulated Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend Tony Lockett, and newly inducted Hall of Fame members Michael O’Loughlin and Austin Robertson.

Pridham paid particular tribute to the Swans' goal-kicking dynamo Tony Lockett who became the 26th player elevated to legend status, during a glittering function at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on Thursday evening.

He becomes the fourth player to have played with South Melbourne or the Sydney Swans to be elevated to football’s most prestigious honour.

“Tony was a giant of the game, a giant of the Swans and giant of football in New South Wales,” Pridham said.

“Home game attendance flourished during the Lockett era and his impact on the game nationally, but particularly in Sydney is almost without peer.

“It is unlikely we will ever see his goal kicking record surpassed and he so thoroughly deserves his place amongst the game’s most revered figures,” he said.

Current QBE Sydney Swans Academy coach Michael O’Loughlin - the first Swans player to reach the 300-game milestone - was inducted into Australian Football’s Hall of Fame alongside six other greats on the night.

Pridham said O’Loughlin had earned his place amongst football’s elite.

“Mick was the first Swan to reach 300 games and his contribution to the club, on and off the field, has been immense.

"He kicked more than 500 goals in the red and white, was a wonderful player to watch and a firm favourite of the Swans faithful.

“It is fitting that as we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the 2005 premiership, that one of the key members of that side be elevated into the Hall of Fame.

“It is wonderful to have a person of Michael’s stature, still associated with the Club and working with the next generation of AFL stars through the QBE Sydney Swans Academy,” Pridham said.

Pridham said, that on behalf of the Club he wished to also congratulate Austin Roberston who was inducted into the Hall of Fame after a decorated career with Subiaco, and a short stint of 18 matches at South Melbourne, along with all the other four inductees on the night.
