Academy recruit Isaac Heeney has thrown his hat in the ring for a round one debut following a strong performance against Fremantle on Sunday.
Heeney, 13 possessions and a goal, showed plenty of class and promise in the Swans’ tough nine-point NAB Challenge win at Drummoyne Oval.
The 18-year-old received ample game time against the Dockers and produced composure beyond his years, perfectly displaued when the first round draft pick slotted his goal on the run from an acute angle to put the Swans 13 points up in the second term.
Stand-in coach Henry Playfair believed Heeney, who picked up 14 disposals aginst Brisbane in the Swans' first NAB Challenge match, was a big chance for the Swans’ opening round of the home and away season.
“Isaac competed really strongly all day,” Playfair said.
“He’s a chance, there are still a few balls in the air at this stage so we’ll wait and see how we go through next week and see how the other young guys go.
“But he’s in that mix for round one for sure.”
Heeney wasn’t the only young Swan highlighted by Playfair with third-year players Dean Towers and Dan Robinson also impressing the stand-in coach.
