The Sydney Swans have made no changes ahead of Sunday’s game against North Melbourne, with senior coach John Longmire deciding against rushing Kurt Tippett and Gary Rohan back into the seniors for the Round 8 clash at Docklands.
Tippett and Rohan, alongside Nic Newman, were added to an extended 25-man squad announced Thursday evening after the pair were cleared of their respective injuries during the week.
Tippett has recovered from a hip injury which has sidelined him for the past two weeks, while Rohan is back to full health after suffering concussion against Carlton.
But after Friday's final training session before the scheduled trip to Melbourne, the coaching staff believed the pair would benefit more from having a run in the reserves.
The NEAFL Swans take on Canberra in the nation's capital on Saturday.
"Gary and Kurt will play in the reserves to get some continuous football under their belt, both of them haven't played much football (in recent weeks)," Longmire said in this week's Centrum Team Selection.
"They need to be able to get back in, play the game, run around, get some conditioning and some touch.
"We obviously pick the best team we think can give us the best chance of winning. The 22 that played last week obviously did the job for us.
"While we're always looking forward to improve, in regard to those particular players we just felt the lack of match play they've had counted against them so they just need to play a bit more footy."
Nic Newman will be on the flight south as the team's travelling emergency.
The Sydney Swans will be aiming for their third consecutive win against North Melbourne.
To do that Longmire says his side will need to first quell the influence of the Roos' ball winners.
"They are very good inside, they've got some big strong midfielders... they're a quality team and as we saw last week against Adelaide, against one of the best team's in the competition, having a 10-goal win against them, shows you how good they are."
