Jack Hiscox’s reign as endurance king continued on Monday following the Sydney Swans’ post-Christmas 3km time trial.

Hiscox led from start to finish, establishing a considerable gap between himself and runner-up Dan Hannebery during the race around Centennial Parklands.

Starting at the southern end of Kippax Lake, the squad ran north towards Moore Park Road then circled the reserve and Lakeside Oval before tackling another lap of the cross-country course.

Hiscox, who has dominated the time trials since arriving at the Swans in the 2014 National Draft, slumped under the sanctuary of a wet towel and took a few moments to catch his breath as the rest of the pacesetters crossed the finish.

Hannebery nipped at the heels of Dane Rampe for most of the race before overtaking the defender, who finished runner-up in December, about 200m from the line.

Dan Robinson finished fourth while Harry Cunningham rounded out the top five.

“We’re happy to get that one out of the way,” Cunningham told SwansTV after the session.

“They’re all pretty tough. The hardest bit is the warm up as I get a bit nervous rocking up and finding out we’ve got a 3km time trial.

“We’re starting to get into the game-like simulations now though so it’s good get it out of the way.

“Everyone is pretty happy we get to chase the footy around instead of running laps.”

Kieren Jack, Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Sam Reid were among a crop of senior players who tackled their first time trial of the summer. They all ran strong times under the searing heat of the morning sun.

With the race done and dusted, the entire squad had to quickly switch its focus and recoup for a subsequent two-hour long training session at Lakeside Oval.

Talk about a demanding start to the week.

“It’s not the best thing to walk into a Monday,” Cunningham said of the tough session.

“We need to keep reminding ourselves and each other to reset the focus that we’re now on skills as we can’t afford to have a slow start whether it be in drills or in games.

“We have to maximise every session leading into the intra-club matches and NAB Challenge.”

The 22-year-old aimed to continue his injury-free run over the pre-season in the hope of presenting a strong case for the pre-season competition and Round 1 against Collingwood.
