Sydney's dominant win over the Brisbane Lions on Sunday finally got them on the board and the players believe it's the perfect platform to build on.

The Swans blitzed the visitors in the opening term with seven goals to two, and while they couldn't maintain that level for the rest of the game, they cruised to a 54-point victory at the SCG.

Midfielder Zak Jones, who would have been best on ground if it wasn't for a brilliant eight-goal haul from superstar Lance Franklin, said the Swans' performance showed that they're far better than a bottom-placed side.

"I think every team wants to get on a roll, but especially with our tough start to the season, we're looking forward to building on the win," he said on Monday.

"I think (the losing streak) is always in the back of your mind but it's good to get a win and hopefully that brings confidence for the rest of the year, and hopefully we can use that to build momentum.

"I think you take the win as a win, it doesn't matter how big it is, we came out and had aggression from the start, and showed that we can do it for four quarters."

Jones racked up a career-high 27 possessions against the Lions and has been one of the few Swans to play consistent footy in all seven games this season, his fourth in the League.

The 22-year-old said having former co-captain Jarrad McVeigh in the side gave the young Swans a real boost, with the veteran defender playing his first game of this season after battling calf problems. 

"When 'Macca' (Jarrad McVeigh) comes back he gives us clear, positive feedback, and he keeps everyone level headed, it's a massive bonus," he said.

"That's what comes from the leaders, they lead, and we just jump on board.

"It helps us and gives us the confidence to talk and give direction, and I think everyone in the club needs to lead for the team to be successful."
