The Swans Reserves were 122 point winners over Eastlake in Canberra on Saturday in very cold conditions.

The Reserves were two players down after half time with Luke Vogels and Paul Bevan being rested as emergencies for the Swans seniors’ game against the Kangaroos.

Heath Grundy lead the Swans’ goal scoring list with four to his name, while Jarred Moore and Vogels kicked three each in a performance considered even over the four quarters.

Moore played an effective midfield role and was especially handy in the first half as was Tim Schmidt, backing up from last week’s performance, with 38 possessions.

David Spriggs, Josh Willoughby and Matt Laidlaw also played a part in the midfield mix while Laidlaw also played at fullback. Laidlaw kicked two goals for the game and Spriggs and Willoughby also contributed a goal a-piece.

Spriggs, who was drafted from Geelong in the 2004 draft, has been a consistent performer for the Reserves making the Swans’ best for most weeks for the season.

James Wall played a strong game at half back and Vogels also made the Swans’ best with a great performance at full forward, for the half of football he played.

The Swans meet Weston Creek next Saturday June 10 at 3.50pm as the curtain raiser to the Swans v St Kilda game at the SCG.

Weston Creek is currently on the bottom of the AFL Canberra ladder and both teams were denied premiership points after their last meeting, when the teams drew after sharing players.
