Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe believes his side has the depth to cover the loss of co-captain Kieren Jack in Saturday’s qualifying final against Fremantle.
Jack is expected to miss at least the next two weeks after straining a medial ligament against Gold Coast on Saturday night.
The Swans will head to Domain Stadium without Jack or Luke Parker (broken leg) but are expecting Jarrad McVeigh to return after missing a week through some minor calf soreness.
Ben McGlynn and Craig Bird showed strong form in the NEAFL after returning from longer term injuries in recent weeks.
Rampe said it was positive to see players waiting in the wings to step up when given the opportunity.
“We have had some really good depth players come in and play some important roles,” Rampe said.
“Craig Bird has been training well with the twos as has Ben McGlynn and Dean Towers played well on the weekend coming in across half forward.
“We have a couple of blokes who can come in and we are confident are going to have an impact.”
News: Swans strong self-belief
Lance Franklin played his first full game on Saturday night for a number of weeks as he overcomes ongoing back issues.
Rampe said he was confident the star forward could perform come the start of the finals series on Saturday afternoon.
“He has been training really well and I think it was just getting the miles into the legs and confidence in his back,” Rampe said.
“He is a big game player and I think he just rises to the occasion so we are looking forward to having him out there.
“We are confident he will have an impact for us throughout September.”
