The Sydney Swans have unveiled a striking Heritage Guernsey set to be worn at the MCG in Round 11.

The club will celebrate its proud history and birthday during the inaugural Swans Heritage Week in the lead-up to, and during, its clash with Richmond.

The Heritage Guernsey honours past South Melbourne Football Club jumpers and features the club’s iconic red ‘V’.

The design also has a collar that was customary during that era, and the club’s birthday and original South Melbourne logo sit proudly inside the collar.

The Swans’ rich history was born out of South Melbourne Temperance Hall, originally known as the Emerald Hill Total Abstinence Society Hall, on June 19, 1874.

A number of exciting club initiatives will be announced ahead of the week-long Swans Heritage Week celebrations.

Swans co-captain Luke Parker says it will be a week to savour for all involved with the club.

“It’s an incredible history our club has and we’re really passionate about teaching that to the young boys when they get drafted to the club,” Parker said.

“We’ve got such a big supporter base in Melbourne and when we play in Melbourne it really is like playing a home game.

“It’s an incredible history that we have and it’s really important we continue to celebrate our history and link with South Melbourne, and to wear the Heritage Guernsey in Round 11 will be really special.”

On Wednesday evening at the club’s Guernsey Presentation and Hall of Fame Induction Dinner, presented by Volkswagen, the date of June 19, 1874, South Melbourne Temperance Hall and founding president John Parry were all added to the club’s Heritage List.

Swans Heritage Week will be marked every season at a game played in Melbourne, near to the club’s established birthdate of June 19.
