Dean Moore has been announced as the newest appointment to the Sydney Swans’ football department, taking on the role of General Manager – Football.

Replacing Andrew Ireland, who this year accepted the position of Swans Chief Executive, Moore said he was “thrilled” to be joining the Club after a 25-year stint at the AFL, where he currently serves as Football Projects Manager.

“I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to return to the Swans,” he said.

“After nearly 25 years at the AFL, the decision to leave was not taken lightly, however I knew in my heart this was the right thing to do.

“This is an exciting new direction for me and I am very much looking forward to working with Andrew and the team at this great Club.”

Moore’s Swans connection stretches back to the late 1970s, when he became involved with the South Melbourne Football Club as team manager. He eventually went on to manage the logistical aspects of the Club’s relocation to Sydney.

Most recently, Moore was appointed to the Swans Hall of Fame selection committee, alongside Rick Quade, Mark Branagan and Jim Main.

Chief Executive Andrew Ireland said he was extremely pleased with Moore’s appointment.

“Dean’s got an outstanding record in football administration, and is obviously extremely passionate about the Swans as well, so we’re very happy to have found him after what was an exhaustive search,” he said.
