THE Sydney Swans will welcome four new players to the Club following the 2010 AFL National Draft, which has wrapped up on the Gold Coast this evening.
The Club picked up exciting young forward Jed Lamb with selection 21, before adding Luke Parker (40), Alex Johnson (57) and former West Coast Eagle utility Matt Spangher with selection 73.
Swans coach John Longmire said Lamb - who has been likened to West Eagles livewire Mark LeCras - was a player of many strong attributes.
“Jed is a very smart player. He's a good mark for his size, creative, and very good in one-on-one contests whether in the air or on the ground. And he can kick goals too,” Longmire said.
“He has played in the midfield and at half back and could fill a number of different roles for us."
"With our first selection at number 21, our plan was simply to pick the best player available, rather than a particular type of player," he said.
Luke Parker, selected at pick 40, is a medium midfielder from the Dandenong Stringrays.
The 18-year old has drawn comparisons to Geelong star Jimmy Bartel, with an uncompromising attack on the football and excellent hands for his size.
At 194-centimetres, Alex Johnson is a key position sized player who, like Swans Rising Star Dan Hannebery, hails from the Oakleigh Chargers.
He has shown an ability to play roles at either end of ground and is noted for his strong work-rate and defensive pressure when playing as a forward.
With their final selection, the Swans threw former West Coast Eagles utility Matt Spangher a lifeline.
Spangher was originally drafted from Victoria to the Eagles in 2005 with selection 34.
He made his AFL debut in 2008 and played a total of 26 matches with the Eagles. He played in a variety of roles and was used with some success as a rebounding defender.
