The Sydney Swans premiership team and coach John Longmire were honoured at the recent New South Wales Sports Federation Sports Awards.

Held on Saturday night at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, the Swans took out two awards - the 2012 Team of the Year, and Longmire winning the 2012 Coach of the Year award.

The Swans, who claimed premiership glory with a ten-point victory over Hawthorn in September, claimed the Team of the Year award ahead of Olympic Gold Medallist sailing team Nathan Outteridge and Ian Jensen, the NSW Women’s cricket team the Lend Lease Breakers, the NSW King Cup Crew and the NSW Under-21 Netball team.

Longmire, who also took out the AFL Coaches Association Coach of the Year award this season, claimed the NSW Sports Federation Coach of the Year honour ahead of Olympic Athletics coach Fira Dvoskina, , Rowing coach Nick Garratt, Head Coach of Australia’s most successful Olympic Sailing Team, Victor Kovalenko and Michael Freney, coach of Paralympian Gold Medallist Jacqueline Freney.

The club was also nominated for Organisation of the Year, while Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy was a finalist for the Athlete of the Year award.

This year was not the first time the club has been honoured at the NSW Sports Federation night of nights, with the club also claiming the Team of the Year honours in the Swans’ last premiership year in 2005.
