Ruckman Toby Nankervis and defender Jeremy Laidler have been recalled for Saturday night's semi final against Adelaide.

The duo have replaced Kurt Tippett and Callum Mills who were ruled out earlier this week due to injuries suffered in last weekend's qualifying final loss.

Scans revealed a hairline fracture in Tippett's jaw and a minor strain in Mills' hamstring, sidelining the pair for at least one week.

With Callum Sinclair still a week away in his comeback from a knee problem, Toby Nankervis will be the man to shoulder the ruck duties in his first ever final alongside Sam Naismith.

The pair, who have played a combined 21 AFL games, will have Adelaide's Sam Jacobs and ruck-forward Josh Jenkins to contest against in the crunch game at the SCG.

"When Nakervis has got his opportunities, he's done quite well for us," coach John Longmire said in Centrum Team Selection. "I'm sure he'll compete really hard."

Both Nankervis and Laidler were named to play in Sunday's NEAFL grand final but were withdrawn late, the earliest hint that they would be the go-to guys in the wake of the injury-cruelled qualifying final.

Laidler is a handy addition to the Sydney Swans' back half who will do battle with a forward line in menacing form.

No team scored more than Adelaide during the home and away season while the likes of Eddie Betts, Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Tom Lynch all combined for 14 of the 21 goals by the Crows in last weekend's elimination final win over North Melbourne.

Laidler played the 13 of the first 14 games of the season before being omitted.

The ever-reliable backman hasn't been able to crack the senior side due to a rock solid defence ranked the competition's most miserly leading into the finals and amid the emergence of Mills and Aliir Aliir.

Adelaide has won four of the past five encounters at the SCG, stretching back to 2005, while the last clash at the SCG ended in a 52-point win to Sydney.
