Josh Kennedy’s record-breaking performance against Carlton on Saturday night has earned him a perfect ten in the race for the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year award.

Kennedy, who holds second place on the overall AFLCA leaderboard, picked up a game-high 41 possessions against the Blues at the SCG, including a record 29 contested possessions, which saw him overtake former Swan Jude Bolton and Carlton captain Chris Judd’s record of 28.

Kennedy, who has polled in 12 games this season, is placed just seven votes behind Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe, who sits atop the AFLCA leaderboard for the second consecutive week.

Following his game-changing second half against the Blues, Lance Franklin has moved into the competition’s top five after receiving eight votes for his standout performance on Saturday night.

Franklin, who has polled in nine games this season, was dominant against the Blues and finished the match with 18 possessions, seven marks and six spectacular second-half goals.

Young forward Sam Reid earned his first votes for the season in Saturday night’s game, with the 22-year-old receiving five votes for his four-goal effort against the Blues.

Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh (29 possessions, eight marks, one goal) and young midfielder Luke Parker (27 possessions, five tackles and two goals) took out the minor votes for the night, with Carlton’s Marc Murphy also earning a vote for his performance.
