The rapid rise of Sydney Swans defender Jake Lloyd has continued after being crowned the 2018 Bob Skilton Medallist.

The 25-year-old capped off another impressive season in red and white by taking out the prestigious Club Champion award on 540 votes, marginally ahead of midfielder Luke Parker (517 votes) and forward Lance Franklin (510).

Lloyd played all 23 games in 2018 and averaged 28 disposals, seven marks and six rebound 50s. He was also selected in the 40-man All-Australian squad for the first time in his career.

A Rookie Draft selection in 2012, Lloyd hasn't missed a beat since making his senior debut in Round 5, 2014, playing 115 of a possible 118 games and becoming the quickest Swan in history to reach 100 games.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said the Bob Skilton Medal was a highly deserved reward for Lloyd.

“From the moment Jake arrived at the Club he instantly impressed all of us with his work ethic and his eagerness to learn and make the most of his opportunity,” Longmire said.

“Credit to Jake because he’s done exactly that – he’s become an integral part of our team and an emerging leader of our back six.

“It’s a terrific achievement to be crowned Club Champion and a great reward for the commitment and work he’s put in.”

Note: Club Champion votes were awarded by the five coaches – John Longmire, Brett Kirk, Dean Cox, Rhyce Shaw and Steve Johnson. A player can be awarded a maximum of 50 votes per game, and coaches can allocate up to 10 points for as many or as few players as they deem appropriate, per match.

Players’ Player Award – Lance Franklin
Star forward Lance Franklin produced another glittering season in his 14th AFL campaign. The four-time Coleman Medallist kicked his 900th career goal and 300th Swans major, passed Leigh Matthews on the all-time VFL/AFL goal-kicking leaderboard to move into eighth and booted 57 goals to top the Swans in front of the sticks for the fifth season in a row. Franklin also played his 100th Swans game, polled the highest of all Swans in the Brownlow Medal count, earned an eighth All-Australian honour and collected his first All-Australian captaincy.

Most Improved Award – Callum Sinclair
Ruckman Callum Sinclair shouldered enormous responsibility in 2018, filling big boots after the pre-season retirement of Kurt Tippett and ACL injury of Sam Naismith. The 200-centimetre giant performed 90 per cent of the Swans’ ruck duties as he went toe to toe with a host of formidable opposition big men, including Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy, Nic Naitanui and Aaron Sandilands. While Sinclair played primarily as a key forward in 2017, his impact on the scoreboard remained strong this season, with the towering Swan snaring 12 majors to top the competition’s go-to ruckmen in front of goal. Sinclair also featured in every one of the Swans’ 23 games in 2018.

Rising Star Award – Oliver Florent
Young midfielder Oliver Florent impressed in his second season in red and white, playing all 23 games and earning a Rising Star nomination to give Swans fans reason to be excited for the future. The 20-year-old recorded 20 disposals as Sydney toppled Carlton at the SCG in Round 11 to put his name in Rising Star contention. He made a seamless transition from the forward line to the midfield in 2018, slotting in on a wing where he raked in a mass of possession, troubled opposition with his pace and impressed by hand and foot.

Best Clubman Award – Harry Cunningham
Midfielder Harry Cunningham produced one of his most consistent seasons of his career in 2018. The boy from Wagga Wagga played all 23 games, made his 100th AFL appearance and averaged a career-high 18 touches per match. Cunningham has also played an active role in the community as an ambassador for kids’ cancer charity partner, Redkite. He’s also heavily involved with club sponsors and events.

John Yates Award – Penelope Moles
Growing up in Burnie, Tasmania, Moles grew up involved in football and supporting her local side, the Cooee Football Club, where her father and brother both played. Penelope has been involved at the Maroubra Saints Junior Football Club since 2011. Between 2011 and 2016 she coached numerous junior teams – both boys and girls – including the all-conquering under-eights and Sydney City development side. In 2018 she has coached the under-15 girls and assisted with the management of the boys' under-14s and 15s teams. Moles is a passionate, enthusiastic and devoted Sydney Swans fan, whose tireless and selfless work for junior football at the Maroubra Saints – and indeed for the entire competition – is widely respected and admired.

The Swans also unveiled their new number one ticket holder for season 2019, with accomplished journalist, author, solicitor and teacher Cynthia Banham given the honour.
