All Australian defender Dane Rampe believes regaining spatial awareness would be a key focus the lead up to Round 2.

Rampe and his teammates this week returned to group training sessions allowing them the chance to work on their physical conditioning.

The Sydney Swans co-captain said it would be wait and see as to how all teams reacted to the 12-week shut down in the season.

“I think the thing you lose once you have a few weeks off over a longer period is the spatial awareness,” Rampe told SEN Radio.

“Being aware of what’s around you, especially around in the scrimmage and scramble. I think just getting the awareness of where people are around you will take a little bit of time.

“I think our bodies can adapt to the load and training, but I guess that’s the main concern of the staff at the moment – getting the landing stuff and spatial awareness back into our mindset.”

Rampe admits dealing with being apart from his teammates during the industry stoppage was certainly more challenging then he expected.

“Obviously it has been very interesting,” Rampe said.

“I didn’t realise how much I had genuinely missed it until I was back out there with the boys, it was an intangible feeling.

“Being back out there with the excitement and enthusiasm is something that I didn’t truly appreciate until I was back out there, so we are all pretty excited.

“We are all happy to be back and ready to go.”

The Sydney Swans will resume their season against Essendon at the SCG on Sunday, June 14.
