Yesterday’s arrival of Jude and Lynette Bolton’s baby daughter, Siarra Neve - the couple’s first child - adds to the lengthy list of Swans born in January.

While not eligible for the father-son rule, we are pleased to report that mother, father and 4.02kg Siarra are all doing well.

Maybe it’s the excitement that comes with the dawn of a new football season. Perhaps it’s the result of the idle time that comes with all the public holidays - or possibly an April Fools gag gone wrong.

But whatever it is that makes April a good month to conceive a baby - and then deliver nine months later in January - the Sydney Swans are thankful.

In addition to young Siarra, eight of the current Swans list get to enjoy their birthday in January’s summer climate, more than any other club in the AFL.

As always, Adam Goodes leads the players out with the first birthday of the year on the 8th of January, followed the next day by Jesse White, and Ted Richards who celebrated his yesterday.

After a nine day break, the birthdays follow thick and fast over the final days of the month, with Brett Meredith, Craig Bird, Ryan O’Keefe, Eugene Kruger, and new Swans recruit Mitch Morton, all born between the 20th and 28th of January.
