Decked out in red and white with his hands in the air, Guy Fisher quickly became one of the faces of the Sydney Swans 2014 finals campaign.

The Swans member was chosen as one of the stars of the AFL’s ‘Don’t Go Quietly’ campaign, which was shown at Swans games and on television throughout the series.

While his inclusion in the campaign came as a surprise, there is no doubt Fisher is every bit the passionate fan that the image conveys.

“I love the footy club and the 11 or 12 games we get to see in Sydney are awesome,” he told sydneyswans.com.au

“I’ve got some great friends that I go with and it’s always a good laugh and good fun.

“I’m a die-hard fan so when I speak to my friends about the Swans during the footy season, it’s probably a bit too much for some of their liking!”

Fisher was not the only one of his Swans’ friendship group who discovered their 15 minutes of fame during the final series, with two of his mates also featuring in the imagery for the 2014 finals campaign.

“There’s another photo which was taken of two of my good mates that I go to the footy with,” Fisher said.

“When we went down to Melbourne for the Grand Final, we found out that his face was on all of the banners through Melbourne, which was even funnier.

“Then in the background was another one of my mates who had his baseball cap on backwards, so between the three of us we somehow became the face of the ad.”

Fisher’s appearance in the finals campaign was not his only claim to fame when it comes to his love of the Swans, with the eight-year member also playing a very special role in the aftermath of the 2012 Grand Final.

Fisher, who was born in Vancouver, was the fan who provided Swans ruckman Mike Pyke with the Canadian flag following the Swans win, which Pyke proudly paraded around the MCG.

“As a Swans fan born in Canada, it brought a tear to my eye seeing this in the paper the next day,” he said.

Fisher did his best to give back to the club in 2014, with the avid fan recruiting eight mates as Swans members last season.

His hard work saw him rewarded with an invitation to the club’s exclusive Nominate Your Mate event.

“When the opportunity came up last year I just sent out a bunch of emails telling them that I was getting my membership and if anyone wanted to join in to let me know,” he said.

“I ended up roping in a whole bunch of people from work and then some of them discovered they had a mate that wanted to come with us as well, so it all just spiralled from there.

“I’ve got ten (members) this year, but I’m hoping that that’s just the first batch.”

Fisher and his friends will be right amongst the action in 2015, with the group securing reserved seats in Bay 5 at the SCG, right up against the fence.

Fisher said he loved the experience of being so close to the field on match day.

“I love it there because I reckon half the fun of the footy is the chat that you get to have with the players and the bad jokes that you make, but it’s all in good fun.

“It’s great being so close to the players and all the action.

“I think one of the funniest memories was when the finals ad came on during one of the last games of the season and our whole bay we sit in just erupted when we came on the screen.”
